The 2012 Sonic is a 4-door, 5-passenger family sedan, or wagon, available in 12 trims, ranging from the 1LS Sedan to the 2LTZ 5-Door.

Upon introduction, both trims are equipped with a standard 1.8-liter, I4, 138-horsepower engine. A 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard on the 1LS Sedan. A 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard on the 2LTZ 5-Door.

The 2012 Sonic is all-new for 2012.
